Skills are competencies from class, profession, or background. Classes have preferred
Class Skills; anything else is a Cross Class Skill at
higher cost. Skill points arrive as you level.
Skill Points
Each class lists a skill-points-per-level number on its page.
Each level you gain Class skill points + INT Mod new skill points.
Starting skill points = (skill points per level + INT Mod) × 4.
Example: Fortune Seeker with 8 SP/level and INT 14 (+2) starts with
(8 + 2) × 4 = 40 skill points.
If leveling raises your INT Mod, use the new mod when gaining that level’s skill points.
Ranks, Caps & Costs
You cannot dump every point into one skill.
Class skill
1 SP → 1 Rank
Maximum rank = your level + 3. A level 1 character cannot exceed rank 4.
Cross-class skill
2 SP → 1 Rank
Maximum rank = your level + 2. Steeper cost for skills outside your list.
Many skills can be used untrained — add only the related attribute
modifier (Climb with STR, Bluff with CHA, etc.).
Skills with () — Knowledge (), Craft (), Profession (), Speak Language () —
need a specific focus (DM approval). Lean into background.

These cannot be attempted with zero ranks.
